Jawala Makes History with First Commercial Laran harvest

SANDAKAN: Jawala Plantation Industries Sdn Bhd (FMU-14) has become the first company in Sabah to successfully harvest Laran on a commercial scale under the Industrial Timber Plantation (ITP) programme.

Jawala Inc Group chief executive officer Rahman Khan said large-scale harvesting commenced in late March this year.

The milestone was marked with the presence of Sabah Chief Conservator of Forest Datuk Zulkifli Suara and Rahman during the official receipt of the ITP Laran and Albizia loaded barge at Sinora Mill Sandakan.

The barge carried 2,088 cubic metres of seven- and eight-year-old plantation logs.

Jawala began its involvement in the ITP programme in 2016-2017 through land preparation activities, adopting a high-volume, low-cost landscape planting approach.
